Artist Statement
In the 1990s, my creative expression flourished through works like "Echoes of Sousse" and "Lachrymal", where the interplay of shapes and intricate lines forged a unique artistic identity. However, my artistic journey paused as I pursued academic growth and ventured into advertising, new media and academia, realms where creativity manifested differently. This hiatus instilled in me discipline and broadened my perspectives, yet the call of abstract expression resonated persistently, whispering reminders of past creations.
In 2024, a pivotal invitation to join an exhibition reignited my artistic fervour, leading to the creation of the "Regenesis" series.
6 original abstract pieces, each with a number of digital derivatives and variations. This work serves as both a revival and homage to my earlier self.
By rekindling the spirit of my personal art style, Striism, I revisited themes of spontaneity and emergence, infused now with the maturity and insights amassed over the years and yet so familiar.
"Regenesis" transcends a mere collection of artworks, becoming a poignant chapter in my life’s narrative, resonating with both history and renewal.
Art Style
Striism, derived from the Latin word "Stria" meaning fine grooves or striations, is what I have named my art style. It emphasizes the use of fine, linear elements creating intricate, delicate patterns. These elements flow harmoniously, reminiscent of natural patterns observed in various textures and surfaces. This form of expression highlights precision, attention to detail, and an appreciation for the elegance inherent in subtle, linear movements and formations. By nature it is an expression of randomness, emergence and what might be considered a form of mindfulness.
